Chris B. Kennedy is Managing Director, Strategic Technology and AI, at Regions Bank, where he is responsible for AI strategy and value creation, emerging technology including digital assets, business enablement, and strategic technology investments across Enterprise Payments, Corporate Banking and Treasury Management, Wealth Management, and Technology.
Chris began his career as a nuclear engineer, trained to model and safely operate some of the world's most complex systems, and brings that systems thinking to banking, payments, risk, and AI. He moved into quantitative finance and risk, building enterprise credit, capital, and stress-testing models and one of his bank's first AI/ML governance frameworks. He later led enterprise payments, supporting nearly $4 trillion in annual transaction volume across consumer, corporate, wealth management, and treasury business lines, and repositioned payments from a cost center into a product-led growth business. His banking career spans Regions Bank, BB&T (now Truist), and BankUnited.
He has helped shape industry standards as former Chair of the FDX Commercial API Task Force and as a Data & Trusted AI Alliance working-group member, and he is a member of the Private Directors Association's National AI Governance Special Interest Group. For more than a decade he has designed and taught executive and graduate courses in AI and analytics at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business and UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. His commentary has appeared in Fortune, and he speaks regularly on AI governance, AI value, and the future of payments.
Chris holds a PhD and BS in Nuclear Engineering from North Carolina State University, an MBA from UNC Kenan-Flagler, and the CFA designation, along with AWS credentials. Outside of work, he is a father of four boys, coaches youth soccer, and enjoys fitness, chess, science fiction, and building with AI.
